The Estate of Sorel Etrog

As Etrog was perfecting his “links” style, he found a source of inspiration in the masterpieces of the past to enliven his painterly practice. One such example is Ingres’ Turkish Bath.

Etrog recreated Ingres’ sensual painting by repeatedly using the links element to connect and create tension among the different figures. Moreover, the highly-mechanical links motif exposes the innerworkings of Ingres’ image, revealing the main structural elements of the original composition, thus illuminating a new aspect of this well-known masterpiece.
